At the MIDWEST LOST SKI AREAS PROJECT webpage [ https://www.mwlsap.org ] I have been tryng to list all of the formerly open, now closed, ski areas in the Midwest. I have also added ski areas of the Midwest that "never opened". Ski areas that were proposed, but never developed. The largest of the "never opened" areas was probably Holiday Mountain in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with a 710 ft. vertical. Michigan also almost had skiing on the Cheboygan Sawdust Pile. While Wisconsin lost the chance to ski on the fifth highest point in the state, Mt. Whittlesey. and Illinois missed out on a year-round Snowflex ski hill near the Wisconsin border at Round Lake, IL.
See the links below for more lost opportunities for skiing in the Midwest.
See the links below for information on these and more ski areas in the Midwest that NEVER OPENED, or go to https://www.mwlsap.org/stories/neveropened/neveropened.htm .
As always, please contact me at mark@mwlsap.org if there are omissions or errors.
